Can Trichopolum tablets be inserted into the vagina?

Trichopolum is a vaginal tablet with antimicrobial and antiprotozoal action used in gynecology. This dosage form of the drug is effective in the treatment of diseases of the genitourinary system caused by protozoan microorganisms, aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. In order for Trichopolum to bring the expected therapeutic effect to women, it must be used in strict accordance with the recommendations of the attending physician. Unauthorized use of medication can aggravate the course of the disease and lead to serious complications.

General characteristics of the drug

Trichopolum is a medicine with a wide spectrum of action. It can be used not only to treat trichomoniasis. This drug suppresses the vital activity of many protozoan microorganisms that are causative agents of protozoal infections.

The active substance of the drug Trichopolum is metronidazole. Potato starch and gelatin are used as excipients for the production of tablets, and purified water is used for infusion solutions.

Metronidazole acts on the DNA of protozoan microorganisms, as a result of which the pathogens die. Trichopolum has several forms of release, among which are:

  • pills;
  • vaginal suppositories;
  • solution for infusion.

When choosing a particular dosage form, it is necessary to focus on the nature of the disease, the characteristics of its localization, and the stage of development. Some diseases require the simultaneous use of Trichopolum in the form of tablets and suppositories.

Prevention of nail fungus

It is possible to prevent the development of onychomycosis using certain preventive measures:

  • constantly monitor the condition of the skin and toenails;
  • maintain hand and foot hygiene;
  • change socks every day;
  • purchase only high-quality shoes made from natural materials;
  • In case of excessive sweating of the feet, use special drying agents.

In addition, it is not allowed to walk barefoot in public places. If such a need arises, you should definitely disinfect your feet with soapy water and apply an antifungal agent to the skin for preventive purposes.

Indications

Trichopolum is prescribed for the following diseases:

  • protozoal infections (amoebiasis, giardiasis, trichomoniasis);
  • adnexitis, inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs;
  • gastritis or duodenal ulcer caused by the proliferation of pathogenic microorganisms.

Adnexitis is an inflammatory disease of the ovaries and fallopian tubes. The pathology has another official name - salpingoophoritis. Chronic or acute inflammation of the ovaries is oophoritis. All indicated diseases can occur with acute symptoms. When the first signs of pathology appear, you should consult a doctor, since delay can lead to complications, which include infertility. If adnexitis is not treated, adhesions form on the fallopian tubes, which can subsequently become an obstacle to conception and gestation.

Application diagram

Chronic inflammation of the appendages or acute disease requires proper treatment. For home use, Trichopolum in tablet form is considered the most convenient. For adnexitis and other types of inflammatory diseases of the appendages, it is recommended to take 500 mg of the drug, which corresponds to 2 tablets. You should take the drug 2 times a day. The duration of treatment is 10 days. It is best to take the tablets during or after meals, without chewing, but with plenty of water.

The standard treatment regimen for inflammation of the appendages involves additional administration of Trichopolum in the form of vaginal suppositories. Each vaginal tablet contains 500 mg of metronidazole. Suppositories must be inserted into the vagina once a day. It is better to do this in the middle of the day, between oral pills. Before use, the candle must be removed from its shell.

If the inflammatory process is mild, the duration of treatment can be reduced to 7 days. A week after starting to take Trichopolum, you need to see your doctor again to assess the result of therapy. If recovery does not occur, another remedy may be prescribed.

If adnexitis is acute and accompanied by bacterial vaginosis, you should consult a doctor. Simultaneous treatment of the sexual partner is not always required. It depends on what microorganisms caused the disease.

Trichopolum in the form of a solution for infusion is used quite rarely in a hospital setting. Manufacturers of the drug give average recommendations, so you should not self-medicate inflammation. Inflammation of the appendages is a complex disease, and its treatment requires a competent approach. Only a gynecologist can adjust the regimen for using Trichopolum and supplement complex therapy with the use of other medications and physiotherapy.

What do you need to remember?

  1. Trichopolum is an antimicrobial medicine that is prescribed in the complex therapy of vaginal candidiasis.
  2. The active substance Trichopolum does not have antifungal activity, so the medicine is used in conjunction with local and systemic antimycotics.
  3. Trichopolum is not the first choice drug in the treatment of vaginal candidiasis; this medicine is used only on the recommendation of a gynecologist against the background of identifying bacterial complications.
  4. Trichopolum therapy will be more effective if used in conjunction with antifungal medications, diet, and personal hygiene.
  5. If during therapy with Trichopolum the symptoms of candidiasis worsen (itching, burning, cheesy discharge), its use should be stopped and consult a doctor.

Contraindications

Trichopolum has a number of contraindications. It should not be taken in any form for the following diseases:

  • leukopenia;
  • organic lesions of the central nervous system;
  • hypersensitivity to metronidazole;
  • liver failure;
  • renal failure.

Trichopolum has the ability to penetrate the placental barrier. It is prohibited to use it to treat inflammation of the ovaries in the first trimester of pregnancy. Treatment is also not recommended for them in the second and third trimesters, but use is possible if the benefit of the drug outweighs the potential harm. Trichopolum should not be used during breastfeeding, because its components pass into breast milk and can harm the baby.

special instructions

The medicine can change the color of urine to brick. Intravenous administration of the substance eliminates mixing with other substances.

The combined use of the drug and anticoagulants enhances the effect of the latter. The risk of bleeding increases. The accumulation and toxic effects of lithium preparations increase. Phenobarbital accelerates the breakdown and excretion of Trichopolum. As a result, the required concentration of the substance is not achieved, and the therapeutic effect is reduced. Cimetidine can accumulate with Metronidazole, increasing the risk of complications of candidiasis. Sulfonamides stimulate the antimicrobial properties of Trichopolum for thrush.

During the period of treatment of thrush and trichomoniasis, it is necessary to abstain from sexual intercourse. Both partners receive therapy. Trichopolum can lead to a false-positive test for syphilis.

Overdose

The medicine rarely causes an overdose. If the following symptoms occur, you should think about exceeding the permissible dosage:

  • nausea;
  • vomit;
  • muscle twitching;
  • convulsions.

In patients with liver disease, there is a risk of drug accumulation and overdose. The doctor should prescribe and select the dose of Trichopolum with caution.

A specific antidote has not been developed. Symptomatic assistance is used. To quickly relieve symptoms, it is recommended to resort to hemodialysis.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

The medicine is not recommended for use before 12 weeks. The drug actively penetrates the placenta. Trichopolum is used from the 13th week only if absolutely necessary, when the expected harm to the child’s health exceeds the damage from side effects.

Side effects

During treatment with Trichopolum, your health may deteriorate. The product has a number of side effects. Often, when treating inflammation of the appendages with metronidazole-based tablets, women notice the appearance of a metallic taste and dry mouth. Side effects such as vomiting and diarrhea are also possible.

With long-term use of Trichopolum, the following manifestations may occur:

  • headache;
  • impaired coordination of movements;
  • increased excitability;
  • depression;
  • disturbances in the urinary system;
  • vaginal pain;
  • red-brown coloration of urine.

In some cases, it is possible to detect allergic reactions to Trichopolum.

They are expressed in the form of itching, urticaria, swelling of the nasopharynx or even fever. If you are hypersensitive to the active substance, you should stop taking Trichopolum. It is important to remember that Trichopolum is incompatible with alcohol.

Trichopolum for thrush in women: truth or myth?

To put it simply, Trichopolum treats thrush, but not in all cases. If we talk about the chronic form of candidiasis, then, as a rule, it is associated with the presence of a number of other infectious diseases, and in this case the drug will be effective.

Nevertheless, based on the analysis of the active ingredients and the indications specified in the instructions, Trichopolum is not used for acute candidiasis in women.

As practice shows, chronic thrush very often leads to the appearance of cystitis and bacterial vaginosis, and the use of this medicine will help eliminate these complications of the disease.

That is, in essence, the medication helps alleviate the symptoms of the disease and neutralize the consequences of the underlying disease, but to cure the disease itself, other therapeutic procedures will be required.

The drug should be used carefully for thrush and under the supervision of a doctor; self-medication is unacceptable. The fact is that Trichopolum weakens the functioning of the immune system and reduces the number of leukocytes in the blood, so treatment should be strictly controlled by a doctor.

But with thrush, the immune system is already weakened. Why can you say this? Immunity is a defense system of the entire body; one of its many functions is strict control over the number of yeast-like fungi.

If the protective reserves are weakened, then the fungi can multiply uncontrollably and form entire colonies, and the immune system cannot do anything about it.

As a result, a person develops such unpleasant symptoms as: pain during sexual intercourse, pain during urination, cheesy discharge from the genitals with an unpleasant specific odor, swelling and redness of the external genitalia.

It is also worth noting the fact that a feature of sexually transmitted infections is that they like to “be friends” with each other; after crossing them, new diseases may appear.

For example, a disease such as gardnerellosis may be the result of a “collaboration” of Trichomonas and yeast-like fungi. With this disease, microscopic examination of a gynecological smear reveals key cells, and the clinical picture becomes even more pronounced.

This situation is a clear example of when Trichopolum can and should be taken.

And if we talk about the microbiological background of the vagina, then all medications with a chemical composition have a negative effect, but compared to others, the effect of Trichopolum is much less.

Reviews

Alexandra, 27 years old, Nizhny Novgorod

“Only Trichopolum helped with inflammation of the appendages. I had tried several medications before, but none of them turned out to be as effective. But I don’t recommend taking it yourself; it’s better to consult a doctor first.”

Irina, 19 years old, Moscow

“The gynecologist prescribed Trichopolum for inflammation. It helped quickly and effectively, despite minor side effects.”

Olesya, 24 years old, Kazan

“I cured the inflammation of the appendages with Trichopolum, but I was worried about the side effects - an allergy appeared. Next time, if necessary, I’ll ask the doctor to prescribe something else.”

Price of the drug and its analogues

Trichopolum is an imported drug. Its price depends on the form of release and the number of tablets or ampoules in the package. The most popular are packages containing 20 coated tablets. Each pill contains 250 mg of active substance. The cost of such a drug is about 80 rubles. Vaginal suppositories have a higher price. A package of 10 candles costs about 200 rubles.

Trichopolum has many analogues. The cheapest domestically produced drug is Metronidazole. Klion, Metron, Metrogil are also popular. All of these products have similar properties. However, you need to use the medicine prescribed by your doctor to treat inflammation.

When is it prescribed for thrush?

The effectiveness of the medicine has been proven in cases where an infection is associated with candidiasis. It is prescribed for the complex treatment of chronic thrush, for the treatment of vaginosis and other pathological concomitant diseases caused by Candida.

Trichopolum helps relieve inflammation and relieve symptoms. However, in parallel with it, it is necessary to include medications specifically for candidiasis. Trichopolum is effective if gardnerellosis develops against the background of thrush. In this case, candida mixes with trichomonas, which metronidazole fights.
