Is it possible to cure thrush with Trichopolum: advice for women

A visit to the doctor often causes not the most pleasant associations, especially in the case of a visit to the gynecological office. Therefore, many people postpone the inspection until the last moment. When detecting symptoms of thrush, many women choose self-medication methods, ignoring the risks of complications with some methods of exposure, which, at best, may not produce any results. Although fungal disease is not a serious disease, it requires competent treatment and an individual approach based on the tests and examination results.

The wide range of special medications offered today, in case of proper selection of treatment, allows you to cure an insidious disease without much difficulty and in the shortest possible time, depending on the individual condition of the patient.

Among the many recommended tablets for thrush, the name of a product called Trichopolum often appears, which, in fact, doctors often prescribe to patients in order to cure a fungal ailment.

What is the drug actually? Is it possible to treat thrush with Trichopolum? What is its effectiveness in treating candidiasis?

Composition and action

Trichopolum is a drug based on metronidazole, which exhibits antimicrobial and antiprotozoal properties. The active substance Trichopolum also demonstrates antibacterial activity. Restores special nitro groups in the body that are involved in the elimination of pathogenic microorganisms, accelerates the process of restoration of damaged tissues. Trichopolum is not used to reduce the manifestations of vaginal candidiasis in women (itching, burning, cheesy discharge, discomfort after sexual intercourse). However, the drug eliminates diseases of the reproductive system that often accompany candidiasis.

Trichopolum treats diseases caused by the following microorganisms:

  • Trichomonas vaginalis;
  • gardnerella;
  • Giardia;
  • dysenteric amoeba;
  • intestinal lamblia;
  • bacteroides;
  • gram-positive microorganisms, including clostridia, peptostreptococci, peptococci;
  • Helicobacter pylori (in combination with antibacterial drugs, which include amoxicillin).

After internal administration, the tablets are quickly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, reaching the maximum concentration is observed after 60-90 minutes.
The absorption process of metronidazole is disrupted if the tablets are taken with food. It is excreted within 8-12 hours by the urinary organs.

Trichopolum helps with thrush only if, in addition to medications, the patient adheres to other recommendations. To cope with candidiasis, you must follow a diet: exclude sweets, simple carbohydrates, cakes, pastries, sweets, high-starch vegetables, sweet fruits and berries from your diet. Thrush cannot be cured if the immune system is weakened. To restore the body’s protective properties, it is necessary to observe a work and rest schedule, go to bed on time (no later than 23:00, in a dark, cool room), identify and compensate for deficiencies of vitamins, microelements, and amino acids.

During therapy, it is also important to identify and eliminate sources of chronic inflammation. This is exactly what Trichopolum can help with, which is active against sexually transmitted infections and other pathologies of an infectious-inflammatory nature.

Trichopolum for thrush in women: general information

The main active component of Trichopolum is metronidazole. This medicinal substance has a detrimental effect on aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms.

The peculiarity of metronidazole is that it destroys the genetic information of bacteria and various microorganisms, which leads to their death. The pronounced activity of metronidazole allows the drug to be used for the following bacterial infections:

  • lables;
  • clostridia;
  • amoebas;
  • Trichomonas, etc.

The product is characterized by rapid absorption in the digestive tract. You should not take it with food, because this will reduce the absorption time and the maximum plasma concentration will be reached much later than usually occurs (a couple of hours).

Trichopolum is evenly distributed throughout the body, which means that if there are several sources of infection, its action will be aimed at neutralizing all foci. It is worth not forgetting about the ability of metronidazole to penetrate the placental barrier.

Another active component of trichopolum is a metabolite, due to which metabolic processes in the body are accelerated. Also, thanks to the presence of this component, after six to eight hours the drug is completely eliminated from the body.

And if the drug is taken for severe liver disorders, the elimination period can be reduced to three to four hours. Patients should not be afraid of changes in the color of urine that occur when taking the drug; this is not an indicator of complications of the pathological process.

This is most likely due to the formation of dyes as a result of trichopolum metabolism.

So, the drug is a powerful drug for various infectious diseases, but is it effective in treating thrush?

The cells of yeast-like fungi differ in their structure and protective membrane from other microorganisms, so how effective will the effect of Trichopolum be?

Mode of application

It is recommended to take the drug orally, without chewing, with a sufficient amount of water. In order not to disrupt the absorption process of the active substance, tablets are used during or after the end of a meal. The official instructions do not provide a treatment regimen for candidiasis. However, for other gynecological disorders, adults are recommended to use the medicine according to one of the following regimens:

  • 2 tablets (500 mg) twice a day for 1 week;
  • a single dose of 8 Trichopolum tablets (2000 mg) per day;

For patients with renal failure, the daily dosage is halved. Simultaneous treatment of a sexual partner without obvious signs of candidiasis is not required.

Tablets are taken after meals with plenty of water.

Trichopolum does not enter into negative drug interactions with antifungal drugs and probiotics. It is necessary to allow an interval of at least 90 minutes between taking these groups of medications. During therapy, the consumption of alcoholic beverages is strictly contraindicated, since Trichopolum causes intolerance to them, followed by severe intoxication of the body. The medicine should not be combined with muscle relaxants, cisclosoprine, cimetidine, warfarin and other anticoagulants.

Analogs

The most popular remedies that are used instead of Trichopolum:

  • Metronidazole;
  • Flagyl;
  • Klion;
  • Tiberal;
  • Metrogil;
  • Efloran;
  • Atrican;
  • Lornizole.

Trichopolum is not the main remedy for the treatment of candidiasis. Thrush is caused by the use of an antibiotic. In the absence of another pathogen, the drug is not indicated. However, the drug is widely used for bacterial co-infection. Against the background of reduced immunity, the vaginal flora is replaced by opportunistic and pathogenic agents. Disguising itself as thrush, a bacterial infection worsens the course of the pathology. In connection with this fact, some experts recommend taking Trichopolum as part of complex therapy for candidiasis.

Side effects

Taking Trichopolum is fraught with undesirable side reactions from the digestive organs, central nervous system, urinary organs, musculoskeletal and circulatory systems. Long-term use of Trichopolum is fraught with headaches, dizziness, coordination problems, and sleep disorders. Patients may complain of pain and discomfort in the epigastric region, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation. Appetite is disrupted and taste buds lose sensitivity. The described reactions in most cases are transient and tend to self-limit after discontinuation of Trichopolum use.

Undesirable reactions from the reproductive system in the form of pain in the vagina are also possible.

Oral intake of tablets in rare cases affects the functional state of the hearing organs. If the described or any other side effects develop, as well as if candidiasis worsens, it is recommended to stop using the medicine and consult a doctor.

With an overdose, unwanted side effects increase. The most obvious manifestations are nausea, vomiting, and dizziness. As first aid, you need to rinse your stomach and take a sorbent. If you continue to feel unwell, consult a doctor for symptomatic treatment. There are no specific antidotes to Trichopolum.

Efficacy against candidiasis

In the official instructions for the drug, the manufacturer notes that Trichopolum does not show activity against anaerobes, viral and fungal infections. If mixed flora is present, the drug will have the proper therapeutic effect only in combination with other groups of medications. In case of fungal infection - with antimycotics for local and systemic effects.

Objective indications for the use of Trichopolum, described in the official instructions:

  • gynecological pathologies of bacterial origin, which are provoked by clostridia, eubacteria, bacteroides, eubacteria, peptococci;
  • amoebiosis, affecting the intestines, liver, as well as the asymptomatic course of the disease;
  • vaginosis with predominant bacterial pathogens;
  • progression of trichomoniasis;
  • inflammatory processes affecting the oral cavity;
  • peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum, provoked by Helicobacter (in combination with bismuth and antibiotics);
  • prevention of infections before surgery of the gastrointestinal tract or reproductive system.

What do you need to remember?

  1. Trichopolum is an antimicrobial medicine that is prescribed in the complex therapy of vaginal candidiasis.
  2. The active substance Trichopolum does not have antifungal activity, so the medicine is used in conjunction with local and systemic antimycotics.
  3. Trichopolum is not the first choice drug in the treatment of vaginal candidiasis; this medicine is used only on the recommendation of a gynecologist against the background of identifying bacterial complications.
  4. Trichopolum therapy will be more effective if used in conjunction with antifungal medications, diet, and personal hygiene.
  5. If during therapy with Trichopolum the symptoms of candidiasis worsen (itching, burning, cheesy discharge), its use should be stopped and consult a doctor.
