“Hygienic” staphylococcus and mold. Gasket research results

Air freshener for drawers

You can use sanitary pads to keep your drawers smelling nice. Diffuse your favorite perfume or apply a few drops of your favorite essential oil to a pad and place it in a drawer between your clothes, towels, or underwear. The smell will last for a very long time. Once the perfume and oils have evaporated, you can apply a few more drops to the pad.

Free from dyes and fragrances

The enemy of the female body is the excessive alkaline environment of the pads, which is measured by pH. Therefore, pads must absorb moisture well, and their absorbent layer is responsible for this. It usually consists of cellulose and other plant or chemical fibers. This layer may also contain superabsorbents that increase the gasket’s ability to absorb moisture. But their superabsorbent can have the opposite effect.

“Previously, cellulose and cotton wool were used to produce pads. Now the gaskets are being made thinner, so there is a tendency to use only superabsorbent, despite the fact that it is expensive and is not produced in Russia, says the head of the standardization sector of the Federal Budgetary Institution “State Regional Center for Standardization, Metrology and Testing in St. Petersburg and Leningrad region” Zinaida Ostasheva. “However, superabsorbent increases the pH level, and increased pH gives an alkaline environment and can affect microbiology - microbes develop well in an alkaline environment. The natural pH tends to be more acidic.”

In turn, Andreeva adds that when the pH level changes, the acidity of the microflora changes, that is, bacteria can multiply faster and thereby cause various diseases in women.

It is paradoxical that, on the one hand, a superabsorbent improves the quality of the pad itself, on the other hand, if the technology is not followed, it can harm a woman.

In this case, only a high-quality superabsorbent can save you, but it is better if the manufacturer periodically monitors the optimal pH level. They contained superabsorbent pads of the brands “Hummings Delight”, “Natalie”, “EKOnomochka Deo”, “Bella”, “BIBI”, “OLA”, “ORGANYC”, “Always”, “CLEVER”, “MILANA”, but an alkaline environment at They don't give this.

By the way, there were no toxic substances, dyes, fragrances or formaldehyde in any of the samples. And none of the tested samples will cause allergies.

Cleaning the screen of a mobile phone or tablet device

Sweat, dust, skin oils, sunscreen and cosmetics - everything imprints on the screen of your mobile device and is wildly annoying. The material used for intimate hygiene is very soft and delicate, making it an excellent alternative to special wipes for cleaning your phone screen. Add a drop of water and gently wipe the surface.

Elimination of unpleasant odor and sweat

When we sweat, our body emits a special odor. Bacteria love warm, moist environments and create a terrible odor. Using intimate pads instead of insoles in sneakers or boots that you wear for work or jogging will help avoid these unpleasant odors. Thanks to the sticky surface, the pads will not slip and all moisture will be absorbed by them.

Personal assistants

The Russian quality system sent to the laboratory 31 samples of normal category gaskets produced in Russia, China, Sweden, Korea, Slovakia, Italy, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Belgium and Bulgaria. The list of brands includes OLA, Libresse, Always, KOTEX, Naturella, Bella, Natalie, etc. They were tested according to 41 quality and safety parameters, including absorbency, microbiological safety, the ability to “breathe,” prevent the development of bacteria, and most importantly, the ability to provoke gynecological diseases.

It turned out that only 20% of the samples studied met basic safety requirements and at the same time had improved consumer characteristics. Thus, samples under the brands “Hummings Delight”, “Natalie”, “EKOnomochka Deo”, “Bella”, “BIBI” and “OLA” are high quality and can qualify for the Russian Quality Mark. They have increased absorbency and bacteriostatic properties, do not cause allergies and “fix” moisture in the inner layer. ORGANYC, Always, CLEVER, MILAN samples are also recognized as high-quality products that fully comply with current requirements.

Nail polish removal

Do you want to ensure that hairs from cotton wool or cotton pads do not remain on your nails when you remove polish from the surface of the nail? No problem. Intimate pads are an ideal material for nail polish removal. Cut a small piece of the sanitary pad and apply a few drops of nail polish remover, the material of the sanitary pad is very soft and safe to use on the skin.

Tampons, pads

On average, each woman uses about 11 thousand sanitary pads or tampons in her life - in total, about 200 thousand tons of this kind of waste end up in the trash every year. Perhaps it's time to pay attention to more modern, convenient and environmentally friendly hygiene products.

Can pads and tampons be recycled?

At the moment, there are no technologies for processing pads and tampons in Russia

Difficulties of processing

Pads and tampons have a complex multi-component composition. Because of this, they are difficult to recycle. In Russia there are no technologies for processing such waste, but there are similar experiments in the world. In medical institutions, some boarding homes and nursing homes, diapers are collected separately and sent for thermal disposal: burning in special ovens designed for the disposal of hazardous and medical waste.

The problem with such products is not only their recyclability, but also their disposability. The creation of such hygiene items takes a lot of resources, and their use lasts several hours.

Eco-friendly alternatives:

  • reusable pads; They are usually made from organic cotton and bamboo. Caring for them is quite simple: you need to soak the used hygiene product in cold water for a while, and then wash it in water at a temperature of up to 40ºC. After this, you need to dry the product and it can be used again and again.
  • menstrual cup; Operating principle: it fits around the cervix, keeping all the secretions inside. The cup looks like a small soft glass, about 5 cm high and about 4.5 cm in diameter. Thanks to the vacuum that is formed when inserting the menstrual cup, it not only holds the discharge, but also does not allow water to pass through. With the bowl you can swim in the sea or pool, play sports and lead a normal lifestyle. Gynecologists consider the cup one of the safest methods of hygiene.
  • menstrual panties; Underwear made from a special high-tech fabric is capable of absorbing a volume of secretions equal to two “super” tampons, without letting a single drop escape and remaining imperceptible on the body.
  • menstrual sponge; The principle of operation is similar to that of a tampon, only with a greater degree of absorption. Sponges are made from natural or synthetic fibers and come in different sizes. After removal, the sponge is washed in a disinfectant solution, rinsed and reused. One sponge will last six months, which is certainly more economical than buying tampons every month.
